ACCESS ROAD

SANDY BAY—STONEY BAY

SETTLER’S OFFER OF LAND

Messrs Bronlund brothers were introduced at the last meeting of the Coromandel County Council by Cr. A. J. Denize as a deputation regarding the Sandy Bay-Stoney Bay access road.

Mr Bronlund said he was interested in the letter from the Minister of Works regarding the cost of this road. He felt sure that endeavours could be made to cut it down and he understood that Mr Mills had been asked to look over the route with a view to getting an idea of the cost and to see whether it could be done at a lower price. Mr Bartley, the new owner of the Sandy Bay land, had made a generous offer which would be a great help in allowing the road to go right through his property, said Mr Bronlund.

Cr. T. V. Whittle: “That’s a most generous offer and shows a definite desire to help his fellow settlers. He moved that a letter of thanks and appreciation be sent to Mr Bartley.

Cr. A. J. Denize: “It’s almost too good to be true, because the road will cut right through his property.” The chairman, Mr E. E. Deeble, asked that the settlers concerned place all available information, regarding increased number of cows to be milked and also sheep and cattle, in his hands, which would help in his approach to the Minister. It had been suggested that Mr Bronlund would milk 60 cows if the road was constructed and they were asked to confirm this in writing. The council was fully alive to the job, it was stated, and was going to do its best to get the road constructed, as originally promised by Hon. R. Semple, Minister of Works.
