SEMI-LAWN CEMETERY
SERVICEMEN’S GRAVES WORK OF COROMANDEL R.S.A. Machinery was recently set in motion by the Coromandel branch of the R.S.A. for the establishment of a servicemen’s semi-lawn cemeteiy. Two members of the War Graves Commission met the local executive and discussed suitable plans and sites. The Internal Affairs Department, which finances projects of this description, has now instructed the Works Department at Paeroa to drawplans and specifications for the approval of the Coromandel R.S.A. and the Coromandel County Council which is the local cemetery board. A yearly grant will'be made by the Department of Internal Affairs for assistance in the maintenance of this plot. At the last meeting of the Coromandel County Council a copy of a letter sent to the Works Department by the Department of Internal Affairs was read. The clerk, Mr J. H. Lucas, explained that it was the result of the action of the local branch of the R.S.A. Favourable comment was expressed by councillors and it is hoped that this move by the R.S.A. will set the lead for other bodies or relatives to get together to do something for the rest of the Coromandel cemetery. It was left in the hands of the works committee to deal with the matter when the plans are approved by the Works Department.
