HOCKEY FACILITIES

FINANCIAL HELP WANTED THAMES-HAURAKI REQUEST A request for assistance in financing the Thames-Hauraki Plains Hockey Association was made to the Minister of Internal Affairs at Thames by Mr P. Jensen on behalf of the association.

The association had been using the grounds of the Thames High School, Mr Jensen said, but they were overworked, and it was highly desirable that there should be another area for the use of the association. The trustees of Rhodes Park had made one end of the park available for the use of the associations, but there was the difficulty of dressingsheds, he said. There was ample room for both Rugby and hockey on the park, but dressing-rooms for the women hockey players were needed.

Mr Jensen said that the association had asked for £5O, but more than that was needed. About £7O had been spent by the association in money and about the equivalent in labour. He wanted to apply for £lOO for the provision of the required dressing-rooms. The Minister stated that dressingrooms were not subsidised by the Government, but if the association made an application for assistance it would be given consideration.
