PAEROA PRAISED

DOMAIN MUCH ADMIRED COMMENTS BY MINISTER GREAT VALUE TO THE TOWN High praise for Paeroa, its appearance and specially its domain, was given by the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W. E. Parry, during his recent visit to Paeroa.

After arriving in Paeroa, the Minister was entertained to morning tea at the Paeroa Borough Council chambers by the mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, and later the Minister made an inspection of the suggested site for the Paeroa War Memorial, and then walked through the Paeroa domain before returning to the borough chambers. While in the domain the Minister expressed his admiration of the park, stressing what an asset it was to the people of Paeroa.

When back in the council chambers, the Minister expressed appreciation for the friendly welcome accorded him, describing Paeroa as a clean and attractive town. He commended the people of Paeroa on the appearance of the town and especially the domain which he said was a credit to the borough.

Continuing, he paid a high tribute to Mr W. Marshall, a former mayor of Paeroa, for the work he had done in the interests of the town. It had been in a large measure the capable administration of Mr Marshall which had assisted Paeroa to develop to the position it held today. He commended the town for its civic pride and again referred to the domain, which he described as a “splendid, recreational area which would play a great part in the community life of the town.”

Prior to the deputations which wave to meet the Minister stating their cases, the mayor extended a warm welcome to the Minister to Paeroa, and spoke of Mr Parry’s former association with the district.

Mr A. S. Sutherland, M.P. for Hauraki, also welcomed the Minister to the electorate, which was, he the Minister’s first visit since Paeroa 11 and Thames had been incorporated in the Hauraki electorate. At the close of business. Mr Sutherland expressed appreciation to the • mayor, the deputy mayor, Mr C. C. Webb, and the town clerk, Mr M. C. Baker for the arrangements which they had made so that the Minister could meet the deputations who had waited upon him.
