The rainfall recorded in Paeroa

during the month of March, 1948, was 1.9 inches less than the average fall for March taken over the last 34 years. On the whole, the past month was a dry one and although there were 13 days on which rain fell, only 1.99 inches were recorded. The heaviest fails occurred on March 12 and 13 when .74 and .45 inches respec-

tively were recorded. The total rainfall to date this year is 6.33 inches, whereas the average for the first three months of the year since 1914 is 11.03 inches.

The majority of days last month were fine with scattered clouds. Bright sunshine during the day with heavy morning dews were recorded three times. On March 3, the hottest day of the month, when the temperature reached 81.3 degrees Fahrenheit, the weather was mainly cloudy. The average maximum temperature for March was 75.32 degrees. The lowest temperature, 43.5 degrees, was recorded on March 11, the average minimum temperature being 54.19 degrees.

Humidity during March was fairly high, averaging about 82.87 per cent. The highest point was reached on March 30 when the humidity was 99 per cent. Barometer readings were also high, 30.07 inches being recorded on March 26, with an average of 29.83 inches for the month.

The above figures were supplied by the Works Department, Paeroa, and, except for the thermometer readings, were recorded at 8.30 a.m. each day. A comparison of rainfall in March since 1914, is as follows:—
