TWELVE BREAKS
EAST WATER SUPPLY TROUBLE ON THE PLAINS BLOW-OUTS AT PIPE JOINTS That 12 blow-outs had occurred in the East water supply during March was reported by the water supply supervisor, Mr J. Bradford, to the April meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council. Repairs were carried out on the following mains:—Huirau road, one on 10-inch main; Turua road, two on nine-inch main; Orchard East road, two on six-inch main; Turua road, two on six-inch main; Peka Peka road, one on four-inch main; Piako road, one on four-inch main; Kerepehi township, one on four-inch main; Ngataipua road, one on four-inch main; Wani rdad, one on six-inch main. All were blown-out at the joints. Rubbish Blocks Intake
“ Rubbish blocked the intake at the headworks during the heavy rain, the whole supply being cut off,” continued the report. “ Three leads have been repaired on the Kerepehi road.
“On the West water supply, a break was repaired on the ten-inch main above Lindley’s Store at Waitakaruru. On Miranda road the two-and-a-half- inch galvanised main was broken at a service pipe. The lead across the metal road was found to be badly pitted and had to be replaced with new piping. Another break in the one-and-a-half-inch main on Pouarua canal stopbank has been repaired. “Water meters have been read over both supplies.”
