13 YEARS SERVICE
MR J. H. WALMSLEY’S WORK
SCHOOL COMMITTEE
THREE MEMBERS RETIRE
At the last meeting of the Paeroa District High School Committee, opportunity was taken by the chairman, Mr C. C. Webb, to farewell the three retiring members of the committee — Messrs J. H. Walmsley, R. J. W. Clark and G. A. Gamble.
Mr Walmsley has been on the school committee since its inception in 1935 —for a period of 13 years—during the whole of which time he held the position of treasurer. Mr Webb expressed the sincere thanks of the committee and of himself personally for the work Mr Walmsley had done for the school. He also thanked Mr Clark and Mr Gamble for their work and expressed his regret that they saw fit to relinquish their positions.
In reply, Mr Walmsley thanked the chairman and the committee for what had been said about him and spoke of the difficult times the committee had had in its early stages.
“ Then, instead of having a credit balance of £l5O as we have today, there were only debts,” he said.
Mr Clark and Mr Gamble both joined with the chairman in honouring Mr Walmsley and expressed their willingness to assist the committee if ever they were again needed.
