SUNDAY PLAY IN THAMES RUGBY UNION DISCUSSION “NON-SUPPORTERS SQUEAL” “ Sunday play is causing concern in the town,” declared the chairman, Mr W. G. Flavell, at the last meeting of the Thames Rugby Union management committee. “We rely on the public for support, and must consider the public.” “ Sunday football, except last weekend, has been no concern of this union,” said Mr T. W. Scott. “Last Sunday’s matches were played because of special circumstances, and l even then, collections went to a charitable cause.” “ The people who are squealing are not Rugby supporters—they do not •care for sport at all,” said Mr W. Arns. - “ They all enjoy themselves in their cars down the coast and deny Rugby supporters their enjoyment,” said Mr A. McCormick. “ Let them talk—arid forget about their talk,” said Mr Arns. “There will not be any more Sunday football this season.” The meeting discussed. an offei’ of a /Newton team to play a Thames team on Saturday or Sunday. It was decided that there would be no chance of a match on .Saturday, but if the Newton team, through' its Thames' spokesman, could find a team 1 to play * against, the management committee would not object.
