STEEL ALLOCATION

TO MAKE FARM IMPLEMENTS “LARGE QUANTITIES LANDED” “Will the Government give early consideration to the request of the New Zealand Agricultural Implement Federation for the allocation of more steel for the manufacture of farm implements? ” asked Mr -A. S. Sutherland (National, Hauraki), in the House of Representatives recently. He said the secretary of the New Zealand Implement Federation reported that if sufficient steel was forthcoming the federation would cope with the local demand. Replying, the Minister of Supply and Munitions, Mr Nordmeyer, said the whole question of the supply of steel for the manufacture of agricultural implements had ’been taken up by his department with Broken Hill Proprietary Limited. Large quantities of various sizes had recently been .received in New Zealand, and, in addition, supplies of steel billets which had recently come to hand should enable the Green Island mill to produce certain sizes not available from overseas.
