RUGBY IN COROMANDEL MANUREWA’S 11—3 VICTORY In a disappointing Rugby match on Saturday a visiting team from Manurewa defeated Coromandel by 11 points to three at Coromandel. The home team was not at full strength and was beaten by the fast backs and the better handling of the visitors. Manurewa took control ’ from the outset and took play to Coromandel territory where McKeddie saved. But the visitors continued’the pressure and Mitchell with a nice run opened the score for the visitors with a nice try which was not converted. Manurewa 3, Coromandel 0 Coromandel took a hand and in loose rushes held their own for a period. J. Beech picked up from the loose and making a nice opening handed to G. Thwaites who sent M. Denize over, making the score: Coromandel 3, Manurewa 3 There was no further score at the interval. After the change-over the visitors playing with a light breeze at their backs, held the advantage throughout and further tries were scored by Fenn and Mitchell, Fahey converting one, making the score at full time: Coromandel 3, Manurewa 11 Mr R. Harrison was the referee. CURTAIN-RAISER COROMANDEL JUNIORS WIN In a curtain-raiser the Coromandel juniors defeated a Manurewa team by 15 points to 9. Tries for the visitors were scored by Bentley (2) and Field. Gamble (2), Beech (2) and Orr scored for Coromandel. Mr Harrison was the referee.
