SOUND POSITION

THAMES TROTTING CLUB REVIEW OF PAST YEAR LOSSES ON TWO DAYS’ RACING The sound position of the Thames Trotting Club is shown in the annual report and balance sheet to be presented by the pre- . sident, Mr W. B. Teasdale, at the annual meeting of the club to be held on Monday night next, September 29. Assets which are mainly cash, sound investments L and realisable property, exceed liabilities by some £3OOO. The annual report reads as under: — “ Two days’ racing were held, on November 2 and December 14, under good weather conditions and very enjoyable days were spent. The totalisator .turnover was £47,983, while stakes distributed amounted to £4130. While the meetings were successful from a racing and social point of view, a loss on both meetings was made, in a large measure due to having to compete against the Waikato Show, Whangarei Racing Club and New Zealand Cup, and on the second day we had to

race against the Waipa Racing Club. However, the Auckland Trotting Chtb and the New Zealand Trotting Conference came to our aid with financial assistance, and your club is under a debt of gratitude to these two bodies. Trophies were presented by Messrs McKendrick Bros., Mr Scott Ramsay and 1 a cup by a supporter of the club. On the second day Messrs A. E. Rabbidge and E. C. Foote, Mr L. W. Mackie and Mr W. 'Sehiavi each presented handsome trophies. My club appreciates the generosity of these supporters. Finance “Although the club suffered losses on both meetings and finished the year with a debit of £625, this, under the circumstances, can be considered satisfactory. Our contribution to the new totalisator buildinig, £5OO, came in this year, and a considerable amount had to be spent on the section adjoining the recently purchased by the dub. This is now an asset. The training track for horses training here has also been kept in order. “ It is with sincere regret that your committee report the passing of Messrs H. J. Burrett, Wm. White, N. Death and H. 0. Stone. The club’s sympathies have been extended to the iereaved relatives. The sympathies M the club has also been extended to members and officials who have suffered family bereavements during the year. Officers “In accordance with the rules, the president, vice-presidents (4), stewards (12) and four committee retire. ■As the nominations for president, stewards and committee exceed the number required, an election will in each instance be necessary. Messrs E. B. Tizard, a foundation member of the club and a committeeman during the whole period, and D. Mackay, who has given 22 years’ service on the committee, are not seeking re-elec-tion. I desire to express the thanks and appreciation of the club to these gentlemen for their long and faithful service. Mr Tizard is offering his services as a steward. “Your committee appreciates the co-operation of the Thames Jockey Club in matters pertaining to the welfare of the club. “As I am not seeking re-election as president, I wish to thank all officials for the co-operation they have given me during my term of office, and I extend; on behalf of my commitee, best wishes for a successful year.”
