TIME SIGNAL
SERVICE IN PAEROA POST OFFICE TO ASSIST The post office had agreed to sound the siren in Paeroa at times to be decided on, Mr J. H. Bartlett told the August meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce. The matter had to be finalised with the Paeroa Borough Council, he said, but he hoped that there would be a time signal in Paeroa in the near future.
iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiniiiiiiiiiiiinniiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiliiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii the State Advances Corporation has a direct hearing on the quantity of State houses to he erected and the above figures disclose an almost equal proportion of houses to applications. Promise of Minister “ I can assure you that the housing situation in Paeroa is under constant .review and that the fairest possible ■treatment will be accorded the town.” The secretary, Mr J. H. Bartlett, pointed out that there was a wide discrepancy between the number of houses allocated to Thames and Paeroa. Thames was receiving 50 per cent, of its demand and Paeroa was receiving only about 30 per cent. Mr E. W. Lee, the chairman, stated that the chance of increasing Paeroa’s allocation was remote unless there was an increase in the number of applications made for houses from Paeroa. If Paeroa had the houses its population would go ahead. If it,was possible to house carpenters in the meantime it would be a step in the right direction. Trainees From Thames Mr J. J. Craig said that the chamber should do something about the area in the railway settlement that would 'be left when the rest of the 13 units had been let. Mr Lee said that it might be pos■sible to get trainees from Thames to "work in Paeroa., Mr Craig stated that the Housing Department had concentrated on 'Thames at the expense of other towns. The meeting decided to bring the matter before the Minister again.
