WOMEN’S DIVISION

PROVINCIAL EXECUTIVE “ROSE BOWL” COMPETITION Mrs Blackmore (president) presided over a large gathering of delegates and friends at the meeting of Thames Valley Provincial executive of the Women’s Division of Federated Farmers, held in Paeroa recently. The highlight 'of the meeting was the judging of the annual “ Rose Bowl ” competition, Mrs Edwards and Mrs Hubbard acting as judges. The winning exhibit from the Kerepeehi branch was a black shopping bag inset with coloured felt, a lady’s black beret and black evening bag. Matatoki branch came’ second with a black scalloped shopping bag, two black felt animals and a number of smaller articles. All the work of this- entry had been done by hand. Tirohia was third with a beautifully trimmed fawn shopping bag. The design was a garden scene. A purse and accessories to match the bag, a housewife tidy and child’s coat hanger were also entered. Mrs Edwards when giving results praised . the work of all exhibits and said it had been quite difficult to decide. Mrs Blackmore presented both ladies with a shoulder spray and thanked them for once again judging

the competition. Other entries came from Waikino, a green shopping bag, fire screen and cushion cover; Coromandel, a black shopping bag; Colville, a fawn shopping bag, hangbag and cushion cover; Huirau road, black shopping bag, knitting bag, morning tea set and numerous small articles. The money raised from these articles was to be donated by the branch to the provincial housekeeping fund. . Mrs Strong, housekeeping secretary and Mrs Scott, secretary, each gave a report from recent Dominion conference, held in Wellington, which they had attended. The idea of a competition for junior members was discussed and Mrs Blackmore offered a trophy as a prize. The delegates were instructed to bring some suggestion for the competition from their branches to next provincial meeting.
