POWER CUTS LIFTED

ORIGINAL ALLOCATION ECONOMY STILL NECESSARY s With the general easing of the restrictions in the supply of electricity, as announced by the Minister of Works, Mr Semple,,.on Friday afternoon, the Thames' Valley Electric Power Board has been able to abandon almost all the shut-downs that were in force. There will still be a short cut-off each day. Speaking to the Gazette this morning, the assistant engineer to the Thames Valley Electric Power Board, Mr G. P. Lindsay, stated that the board would be going on to the allocation of power that was in effect before the recent restrictions. However, Mr Lindsay said . from a quick glance at the figures it looked as if the board could not carry on without some minor power cuts. “It is essential that the public should bear in mind that the greatest possible economy with electricity is still necessary, and the greater the conservation of power that is made by the public the less will be the restrictions made,” stated Mr Lindsay. Mr Lindsay stated that he thought that the shut-down between 6.30 p.m. and 7 p.m. would remain in operation, but it was hoped that there would not be the need for any other. The executive of the board, he said, was going to review the position today.
