HAURAKI DRAINAGE BOARD 3ld AND Ifd TO BE STRUCK MEETING APPROVES ESTIMATES In the estimates for the year ending March 31, 1948, for the Hauraki United Drainage Board adopted by the June meeting of the board provision for the collection of £3900 in rates was made. The rate recommended to be struck was unaltered from that of last year, being a general rate of 3jd in the £1 on lands classified A and Ud on lands classified B. The estimated total receipts for the year was £5755.

An allowance of £3OOO for works and general maintenance was made in the payments for the year. Nearly one third of that amount was estimated to be the board’s contributions to stopbank work on the Piako and Waihou rivers. The sum for the Piako was £450 and the Waihou £469, making a total of £919.

In his balance sheet the clerk to the board, Mr R. S. Nicol, stated that it was estimated that if the same rates as last year’s were struck again

this year a sound position of the accounts should be maintained.

The chairman, Mr C. K. Fox, stated that the board was getting through reasonably well. The general thing today was an increase in rates, but the board was fortunate in that it could carry on with the rates the same as last year. No Major Works

Mr P. G. Pearce said that the board would not be able to undertake any major works during the year. It would have to concentrate on maintenance work, he said. The estimates as presented by the clerk were adopted by the meeting and a resolution giving notice of the board’s intention to strike the rates for the'present year at the next board meeting was passed.
