CHRISTMAS CLOSING
PROPOSALS FOR PAEROA HOLIDAY PERIOD HOURS' The November meeting of the Paeroa Chamber of Commerce, held in the Rotary Rooms, attracted a very small attendance, only eight members being present. They were: Mr B. A. Gwilliam (chairman), Mrs J. E. Wright, Messrs C. Kenny, J. Turnbull, M. Young, L. Bogue, L. Trim, C. C. Webb and the secretary, Mr J. H. Bartlett. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs E. W. Lee, N. C. Davies, R. L. Darley, T. Massey and L. A. Clark.
The main purpose of the meeting was to decide the shopping hours over the Christmas and New Year holiday period. Of the eight members present only three were shopkeepers. Consequently no real expression of opinion could be gained. It 'was reported that neighbouring towns had adopted the following hours: — Tuesday, December 24, late night; Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, closed; Friday, December 27, open till 5 p.m.; Tuesday, December 31, late night; Wednesday, January 1, and Thursday, January 2, closed; Friday, January 3, open till '5 p.m. It was resolved that it be a recommendation to the Paeroa shopkeepers that the foregoing arrangements be adopted. The secretary was instructed to advertise the agreed hours.
