PARENTS MEET

PAEROA DISTRICT HUGH

ISKTNIS WANTED FOR DRUM 1 The monthly meeting of the ParentTeacher Association was held in the staff room of the primary l department of the Paeroa District High School, Mrs W. E. Tubman presiding over the following members: Mesdames R. Clark. R, Ganley, G. M. Ruscoe, J. Geddes, J. C. Cuff, M. J. Irwin, B. Roberts, C. Gleadow, Misses Tarrant, MbKenney, MlcF'arland, Messrs G. M. Ruscoe, Meyers and R. Greenslade. Mts Tubman welcomed old and new members, and expressed the conviction that all would be together and accomplish much good work.

■Some improvements were suggested with regard to future garden parties: (a) That afternoon tea be not put on so early, (b) that there be more items and more amusements.

A discussion took place on the advisability of the association acquiring its own cups and saucers, as the sum of 3-07- or thereabouts was spent annually on hiring same. It was decided that the matter be left in obeyance, the present being an inoppor tune time for purchasing crockery.

It was agreed that a letter of thanks and appreciation be sent to the Presbyterian Hall Committee.

The treasurer read the balance sheet, sho'wing a credit balance of J0317/WHI.

It wa s proposed to have inquiries made, to see if skins could be procured for the school drum, and that toy telephones be procured for the infant department. Mr Ruscoe explained that these were excellent for teaching the children the value and use of the telephone.

The apparent need of an amplifier at the High S'chool was mentioned, but Mr Ruscoe sat'd there was a scheme afoot whereby the High .School pupils themselves expected to raise the necessary funds for this purpose.

A circular letter was read from the Director of Adult Education suggesting that the formation of a local ‘Discussion Group” be discussed at this meeting. It was decided to leave this matter in abeyance until the arrival of a travelling tutor, some time in the near future.

The association’s annual afternoon social then came up for discussion. A date was set, and the arrangements left over until the next meeting of the committee. The secretary was instructed to forward a letter to Mrs S. Wheeler, in appreciation of her splendid services as president of the association for so many years.
