THE Hauraki Plains Gazette With which is Incorporated THE OHINEMURI GAZETTE MONDAY, WEDNESDAY, FRIDAY “Public Service.” FRIDAY, MAY 10, 1946. WAIKATO FARM SCHOOL

Widespread appreciation of the present and potential value of the Waikato Farm School is shown by the fact that the present session is being attended by keen students of farming from all over the Dominion. Those who attended the school last year were so emphatic in their praise of the institution that there was 1 an enthusiastic response on this occasion. It is evident that there will be a demand for greatly extended accommodation in the future. Lectures and demonstrations on a wide variety of practical farming subjects have been of untold value to many men who seek to improve the efficiency of their methods. The courses of instruction are of particular value to young men adopting farming as a career, and in this connection there seems to be a natural link with the Dominionwide problem of rehabilitation. Nowhere else is it possible to compress into a fortnight’s instruction on the advice of such a’ panel of lecturers and demonstrators under conditions which combine a pleasant holiday with a feast of expert knowledge. Those who have organised the school are looking ahead. They are aware of the need to attract more and more people to the land by providing in rural areas many of the good things l of life Which are now too narrowly confined to the. cities* and to foster in the country an interest in culture which can never be achieved in crowded 1 places. The intention is therefore to expand the scope of the school to include cultural subjects as well as practical farming instruction. There is every indication that the Waikato Farm School will develop into an organisation capable of exerting on the rural community an influence of great value to the whole Dominion.
