MOTHER’S DAY

COROMANDEL INSTITUTE THREE NEW MEMBERS ELECTED The May- meeting of the Coromandel branch of the Women’s Institute was held in the Oddfellows’ Hall on Wednesday, April 1, when Miss Russell presided over a. good attendance of members. The meeting' opened with the Institute prayer, and the hospital visitors’ reports were received. The Federation (President’s Monthly Letter was read and discussed. , It was decided to hold a Paddy’s Market to raise funds to pay for this Institute’s delegate’s expenses to Dominion Conference in Wellington. The roll call—sing, say or pay 3d. provided amusement and was well answered.

'Three new members were proposed, for membership and were accepted with acclamation. Miss Riissell added a few words of welcome to the new members, two of whom were new arrivals in Coromandel. It was decided to start the meetings at TjS'O' p.m. during the winter months.

After a brief discussion it was resolved to send the linen frock which went to the competitions in Thames, to Wellington for the trading table at the Dominion conference.

Mrs Anderson gave an interesting report of the Federation 'Council meeting in Thames which she had attended as delegate. It was With pride that the Institute had once again gained second place in the competitions, and a determined effort will be made next time to gain the first place. The articles which gained such good marks were on display at the meeting' where members could get a close up dew of the expert workmanship put into them. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Mrs Anderson for her report, s As this was "Mother’s Day” meeting, Miss Russell pinned white sprays on the visiting mothers, who suitably replied. The monthly competition Was won by Miss Venables. A dainty supper was served byi the hostesses, Mrs W. Dean and Mrs Anderson after which the National Anthem brought the meeting to a close. The competition results: —Best bloom: Mrs Reddy 1, Mrs 'Lucas 2; Kumeras: Mrs Inglish 1, Mrs W. Dean 2, Miss Venables 3; Scone loaf: Mrs H. Dean 1, Mrs W. Dehu 2; Rhubarb: Mrs W. Dean, only entry; Floral Spray: Mrs Deeble 1, Mrs W. Hart 2; Crochet spray: Miss Box 1, Mrs W. Dean 12; Tomato sauce: Mrs E. Turner, only entry.
