DIAGNOSTIC WORK
HOSPITAL LABORATORY ESTABLISHMENT AT THAMES Preliminary work on the establishment of a diagnostic laboratory at the Thames Hospital will start soon, disclosed the chairman, Mr J. W. Danby, at the April meeting .of the Thames Hospital Board. A circular setting out new regulations covering payments for this work under Social Security was received from the Department of Health. *1 think the time has come when we should consider a laboratory diagnostic service to the public,” said M!r Danby. “If we have the facilities, the medical men can make tests which we have to send away to other hospitals. Much time would be saved, and in time it would be a self-supporting part of the institution.” 1 The Social Security payments do not apply to examinations of water or milk, post mortem examinations, laboratory services' for dental purposes or life insurance or the preparation of sera or vaccines'.
