GOOD SPORT

MEETING AT KEREPEEHI MARRED BY THE WEATHER LARGE ENTRIES IN EVENTS Although Saturday was wet and showery there was a good attendance at the annual sports of the Kerepeehi Racing and Sports; Club held at Kerepeehi. The fixture had been arranged for Easter Monday but due to the inclement weather on that day the meeting had been postponed until Saturday. There was keen competition in all the events, a large number of horses from all parts of the South Auckland competing, while in the chopping events heats were necessary to accomodate all the entrants who included some of the best in New Zealand.

Under the control of the popular president, Mr C. Fl Pearce, and directed by the capable secretary, Mr C. Bird, the large programme was run off rapidly being a credit to the enthusiastic band of officials responsible for the organisation. The gate takings were in the vicinity of £6O and all present enjoyed a very good day’s sport. There were a number of sideshows in attendance and these provided suitable variety between events while the merry-go-round proved a particular attraction for the children.

The president in presenting' the Wilson Cup to the winner of the Open Hunter event, Mr B. Lawrence and the Lupton 'Cup to Mr J. Evans whose Waterhound won the Kerepeehi Handicap, congratulated them on the success of their horses. He thanked the public for their attendance apologising for the inclement nature of the weather. He also thanked' all who had assisted in making the day the success it had been and he specially thanked the business people of Paeroa who had' subscribed so willingly each year towards the club’s, funds.
