PLPIROA INSTITUTE MEETS

THANIKS RE'CEIVED FROM’ KENT The monthly meeting of the Pipiroa Women’s Institute was held in the Pipiroa Hall on April 17, Mrs Marshall presiding over a good attendance of members. 'Birthday posies were presented to Mesdames Knox, Walker, Ryan and Tito. The Golden Thread was read by Miss Laurel Scott, the subject being “Holland, It’s People and Customs.” After a general discussion it was decided to purchase a large teapot, jug and sugar basins and that enquiries be made regarding the purchasing of tables, all of which are badly needed by Institute. Two letters received by the secretary, from Kent, thanking the Institute members for further parcels, were read. After luncheon Mrs Marshall gave a most colourful descriptive talk on a recent trip through the South Island. Miss Jean Daljgety delighted’ the members with a bracket of songs. A competition, the making of a set of false teeth from plasticine and peanuts caused much laughter, the winner being Miss Jean Dalgety. A chocolate cake donated by Mrs Silcock was won by Mrs Keane. The Wandering Shilling was won by Mrs Silcock. Other competitions.— Decorated saucer (floating): Mrs McAulay 1 and 2; Chocolate cake: Mrs Powell 1, Mrs McAulay 2; Best bloom: Mrs Gardiner 1, Mrs McAulay 2. The sales table was soon cleared under the direction of Mrs Powell. Luncheon was served by the hostesses, Mrs and Miss Scott. The meeting closed with the singing of the National Anthem;
