TOO MUCH DELAY

SHOULD BE MONTHLY FARMERS CONFERENCES FARMERS’ UNION DISCUSSION! - That all sub-provincial councils meet monthly instead of quarterly as at present, for at least a * year, was a remit from Netherton discussed at the quarterly con--ference of the Northern Thames • sub-provincial executive of the N.Z. Farmers’ Union, held at Thames recently. Mr W. H. Cheale, of Netherton, said' that at present - there was too much delay through having to wait three months. Remits were- moved and then nothing more was heard for three months. This was too long and „ he thought the conference held every three m'onths was useless. If far- - mei’S' met monthly, they could keep more abreast of things. The remit was seconded by Mr P. H. 'Sutton of Hikutaia. Not Possible at Present Mr A. J. -Campbell, Waihi, said he did not think monthly conferences were possible just at present. Farmers cbuld not spare the time and the expense would be too high. He moved as an amendment that matters of im- „ portance be referred to the executive for their consideration.

After considerable discussion, Mr Cheale agreed to withdraw his remit.
