TARANAKI SYSTEM URGED THAME'S VALLEY RUGBY SUGGESTION MADE BY PAEROA There was no support for the suggestion made by Paeroa delegates at the annual meeting of the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union that the Taranaki system be given a trial in the Thames Valley area. Under this system each sub-union would field say two strong senior teams and a competition would be organised between the four sub-unions in the Valley area. 'Mt W. IF. F. Faber, chairman of the management committee of the Paeroa Rugby Union, raised the question pointing- out that this season his union would have only two senior teams, three junior teams and two third grade - teams. This, he said, would not produce a good competition with keen interest in the sport. He suggested that if the other unions were similarly affected that it might be a good idea to organise the Taranaki system in the Valley with say eight good teams. Possibly the Poland Cup could be played in two rounds and then all centres would, have the benefit of seeing all teams’ in action and this would greatly benefit the sport over the whole area. Other Unions’ Opinions. Mr G. O’Leary (Te Aroha) said he could not support the suggestion; as his union had four senior teams. With regards to playing two rounds for the Poland Cup, his union did not have sufficient ’Saturdays- to spare for this. Mr H. T. P. Evans (Hauraki Plains) .also opposed the suggestion, pointing out that his union had six senior teams in. their competition. They also could not spare the .Saturdays to play two rounds of the Poland Cup. 'The matter was then dropped, the -draw for the Poland Cup to be arranged at the next meeting of the ■union.
