ROAD UNDER WATER
FLOODS IN MERCURY BAY 'SERVICE CAR HELD UP The heavy rain which fell in Mercury Bay district during the Easter holiday period caused flooding on the Mercury, IBhy-Ooroglen road and cars leaving Whitianga on Easter Monday were unable to get through to Thames. The Mercury Bay service car from Thames also had to turn back after passing through Cbroglen as the driver found it impossible to proceed on to Whitianga owing to water on the road.
Although the tide was at dead low water the heavy wind had backed it up and many old residents from Mill creek and Kaimarama stated that it was years since they had seen the road so badly flooded. 'Passengers from the service car had to spend the night at the Waiwawa Hotel but were able to proceed on to Mercury Bay next morning.
