UNION’S ANNUAL MEETING

QUESTION OF BOUNDARIES

The annual meeting of the Thames Valley Rugby Football Union was held in Paeroa on Saturday night the president, M ! r H. T. P. EVans (Hauraki Plains) presiding. Delegates present were Messrs Perry '(Hauraki Plains), A. J. Johanson, H. Roberts and G. O’Leary (Te Aroha), W. F. F. Faber, B. Kelly and A. Bradburn (Paeroa). An apology for absence was received from Waihi.

The election of officers resulted:— Patron, Mr J. W. Silcock (Paeroa); president, Mr W. F. F. 'Faber (Paeroa); vice presidents, Messrs A. J. Johanson (Te Aroha), H. T. P. Evans (Hauraki Plaihs), B. Kelly (Paeroa) and one to be nominated by Waihi, secretary, Mr R. S. Nicol; treasurer, Mr R. L. Darley; auditor., Mr A. A Jenkinson; executive committee, president, secretary and treasurer and Mr B. A. Kelly (Paeroa). It was decided that the secretary be a permanent official residing in Paeroa which it was agreed should be the headquarters of the union. Meetings are to be held once a month the day to be fixed at the next meeting. Match With Australia

The possibility of Thames Valley combining with ’Waikato and King Country to play the Australian team which is to visit New Zealand this year was raised by Mr Johanson and the president was instructed to contact the other unions on the matter while attending the annual meeting of the New Zealand Rugby Union.

The question of the appointment of selectors was left until the next meeting of the Union. Mr Kelly raised the question of players residing at Hikutaia to whom the Thames Rugby Union objected to playing for the Hikutaia Football Club in the Paeroa Union’s competition. He pointed out that without these players Hikutaia could not field a senior team while the players themselves would be prevented from taking part in the sport as it was too far away for them to any Thames Rugby Union teams-. It was agreed to refer the matter to the New Zealand Rugby Union asking’ -them to call a conference and appoint an arbitrator to thoroughly investigate the whole matter. Boundaries Of Union The question of other boundaries of the Thames Valley Rugby Union.was mentioned by Te Aroha delegates and the opinion of the union was that the whole position should again be reviewed as the union was one of the weakest in 'New Zealand and players wi its boundaries- were prevented from taking part in the sport and in some instances league was capturing these players. Mr Faber was appointed to represent the union on the Referees Appointment Board.
