PAEROA PICNIC RACES

'SUCCESSFUL DAY’S SPORT

Although the weather was extremely unpleasant in the morning with driving showers it cleared in the afternoon for the annual meeting of the Paeroa Picnic Racing Club held on the Paeroa Racecourse on Saturday. The attendance was not as good, as in other years but nevertheless the meeting was a success both financially and’ from a sportsman’s point of view. Excellent organisation by an energetic band of enthusiasts, had everything well organised for the day and the large programme of fourteen events was- run off without undue delay. Racing of an interesting nature was seen several of the finishes being particularly exciting with hard riding by the horsemen to get the decisions.

(Proceeds from. the day will net. a profit within the vicinity of £lOO. The Paeroa Hauraki RiS.A. and the Paeroa Plunket .Society will benefit accordingly. Good work was done by an energetic band, of ladies who conducted the refreshment stall and this proved' particularly popular in view of the unpleasant conditions which reined, in -the early part of the day. His Worship the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, was present and after the running of the Polo Pony Cup presented the trophy to Miss E'. Lind’say, the owner of the winner “Goldie.” He congratulated' Miss Lindsay on her success and' the club on' the manner in which they had organised the day.
