< WHAREPOA INSTITUTE VISIT BY MRS TURTON M’R'Si T. BAX FOR CONFERENCE There was an excellent attendance of members at the April meeting of the Wharepoa Women’s Institute. In the absence of the president the vice president, Mrs M. Bax was in the chair. On opening the meeting, Mrs 1 Bax extended a warm welcome to Mrs V. Turton, of Paeroa, who is a voluntary organiser for the Thames —Hauraki Federation of Institutes, and was making her first viist to the Wharepoa Institute. Mrs Bax also welcomed two new members. A notice of the dates, etc., of the Dominion Conference which is to be held in Wellington in July next was received, urging all institutes to send a ~delegate. After a discussion it was decided that Wharepoa Institute would send a delegate and Mrs T. Bax, the secretary, was selected. After all business had been attended to Mrs l 'Bax called upon Mrs Turton to address the meeting. Mrs Turton gave a most enjoyable talk, starting with the origin of the movement and covering all rules and procedure connected with th'e running of an institute. At the conclusion of the meeting Mrs B'ax moved a vote of thanks to Mrs Turton for her most interesting address and' this' was carried by acclamation. Mrs 1 Turton received from Mrs Bax a dainty bouquet of autuhin flowers. Flowers were also presented to M'esdames H. Bax and P. Ingley to mark their birthday month. A. wall competition was won by Mrs T. Bax. Points competition, Mrs L. McCollum; best bloom. Mts> Henwood; two special competitions, cotton, breakfast cloth and crochet gloves were won by Mrs M. Bax and Mis T. Murdock respectively. Mrs 'C. Brown was hostess and judge for the day and read one of 'Golden Thread series “Women of China.” The Roll Call for the day was suggestions' for “'Copper Cup” competitions. The meeting closed' with the singing’ of the ode and ‘‘God' Save the King.” At the Thames-iHauraki Federation meeting held last week one of the competitions was for the best bottles of peaches, sauce and pickle. In this, two Wharepoa members gained first and second place; they were: Mrs L. McCollum 1, Mrs Ingley 2.
