BIBLE SOCIETY

ANNUAL MEETING AT TURUA OFFICERS FOR YEAR ELECTED The annual meeting of the Turua branch of the Foreign Bible Society, held iin the Manse, Turua, was presided over by the Rev. J. C. Howat. Those present were Mesdames Hicks, Dally, Bell Madgwick, A. Baker, Heasman snr. and Miss Lorna Clark, organising secretary of the .South Auckland and Poverty Bay auxiliary.

The meeting opened with the singing of a hymn, reading and prayer. An apology was received from Miss White, secretary, who was absent through sickness of a friend. The meeting stood in silence as a mark of respect to one ol its former members, the late Mrs A. Simmonds and prayer was offered by Mr Howat.

The election of officers resulted: — President, Mr Howat (re-elected), secretary, Miss White (Kopuarahi); collectors, Mrs Bell (township); Mrs Hicks (IPiako road); Miss White (Kopuarahi); Mr Howat (Oparia road, and Orongo); Mrs Tetley and Mrs Fox (Gumtown road); Mrs Madgwick (Huirau road). It was decided that all collections be in to the secretary by June 1. Miss Clark was then introduced and gave a very interesting outline of the work being done throughout the world, and New Zealand in particular. Miss Clark answered several questions and asked especially for the prayerful support of all. The sum of £l'6/l'7/0 was collected by the Turua branch last year, this being a record, stated the organising secretary.
