WARD CONFERENCE

REPORT BY THE CHAIRMAN FAR-REACHING' BENEFITS At the September meeting of the Coromandel County Council the chairman, Mi’ ‘E. Deeble, reported l on the ward conference held recently at Paeroa. He stated! that the results of these conference would be far-reach-ing’. He pointed out that county councils could submit remits to the ward to view, so that direct representation could be made, by the ward representative placing the ward’s opinion directly to the counties’ executive. A meeting of the ward could be called at any time should matters warrant, otherwise half-yearly meetings would be held. Cr. A. Watkins asked if the question of petrol tax could be deal with through the ward. Mr Dee'ble continued, “Instead of going direct to the association we now go to the ward and that representative is backed by seven counties. From time to time matters could be brought' up and tabulated so that it could he placed before the ward when it met. Mr J. N. Massey, M.P., had been appointed' representative for the ward.”
