STRAYING STOCK
STALLION IN THAMES OWNER (LIABLE; TO HEAVY FINE Gordon Hoffman, for allowing a bay .stallion to wander along Queen Street Thames, on September 9, was fined' 10s and ordered to pay costs by Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., in the Thames Magistrate’s Court. Mr E. B. Clendon, for the Thames Borough Council, said the stallion had given a good deal of trouble. It nf fected the work of the council and the Improvement Society, and had been difficult to catch, according to the poundkeeper, Mr L. H. Houghton. Defendant said whenever he tethered the horse .someone cut the rope. “It is going to be a costly matter I for you not looking after the horse,” [ said the magistrate. “You cannot alj low an entire to wander round the streets. You are liable to a heavy fine for this. Perhaps you should consider getting rid of it. If you want j to keep these animals you must have a place for them.” ! The magistrate said' the maximum ; penalty was £2O.
