FINES IMPOSED

TRAFFIC OFFENCES DRIVERS BEFORE COURT CASES HEARD in PAEROA In the Paeroa Court on Monday before Mr W. H. Freeman, S.M., fines were imposed as under for offences under the traffic_regulations. Raymond Lowe was fined £l, costs 12s, on a charge of having no licence for his car and 10s and costs 10s for not having a warrant of fitness for the vehicle. A fine of £1 10s, costs 12s, was imposed upon John Charles Cotter on a charge of driving a heavy motor vehicle along the Paeroa -Pokeno main highway at a speed exceeding 2(5| m.p.h. Traffic Inspector’ K. R. Sharpe stated that he had checked the speed of the vehicle at 35 m.p.h. Charged- with operating a motor vehicle without a number plate and distinguishing mark displayed, L. d'. Potter was fined 10s and l costs 12s. Potter who pleaded guilty said- the number plate- had been on the vehicle when he went to the factory in the morning but it had evidently been

broken off when stopped by Traffic Inspector Sharpe later that day.

Farmers’ Transport Ltd., were charged with operating a vehicle without a vehicle authority being carried and were fined 10s with costs 10s. The same firm were- fined 1 ' 10s and costs 10s on a charge of operating a vehicle with the indication disc not visible. Traffic Inspector G. A. Fergusson said when he had stopped the vehicle on the Paeroa-Waihi main highway it had not had a front number plate, a licence sticker, a heavy traffic licence disc or a heavy traffic licence authority. -C. A. .Stembridge and Son were fined £2 10s, costs 10s, on a charge of operating a motor vehicle on a class IV. road, the Te Kauwhata-Waitaka-ruru main highway. Mr G. G. Winter who prosecuted for the Waikato County Council stated that when he stopped the vehicle he found it had no heavy traffic disc displayed, not letter indicating class of vehicle and the load was seven tons which was an overload for the class of road. Roads and bridges were being damaged as a result of overloading of vehicles in his county. Fines of 10s and costs 10s were also imposed on the charges of not carrying an indication disc and a letter indicating the class of the vehicle.
