“MENACING GROWTH”

SPREAD OF POA AQUATICA OHINEMURI EXPRESS CONCERN That the Ohinemuri County Council should support the Hauraki County Council in seeking to have poa aquatica classed as a noxious weed, was an opinion expressed by Cr. G. A. Avery, at the September meeting of the council, when speaking to a report on a recent local bodies conference on the matter, held at Paeroa. It was moved by Cr. Avery, and seconded by Cr. S. H. Thompson, that approval be given to the Hauraki Plains Council’s projected action in the matter. Cr. F. A. Thorp said it would be an advantage if they could have a ban placed on the sale of the seeds of poa aquatica. The county engineer, Mr L. E. Shaw, believed there would be strong opposition to such a measure on the part of a number of farmers who had planted it for grazing their stock. If they had' it blocking their drains they might take a different view of the matter. %

It was unanimously agreed that the council support the Hauraki Plains County Council in its proposed action regarding what was described as “a menacing growth.”
