CUT TREE DOWN
NO OTHER ALTERNATIVE CROSSING AT FORMAN’S GREEK At the September meeting of the Coromandel CgjgjQty Council a letter was received the consulting engineer, Mr in which he asked if the council desired that the site for the crossing- at Forman's creek be moved upstream to avoid destroying a pohutukawa tree. After discussion it was revealed that ’if the road was shifted there would' be a grave danger of the tree uprooting as the formation would leave it standing almost on an isdand. It was resolved that Mr Murray be instructed to adhere to the original plan and cut down the tree. Cr. A. J. Denize said it was unfortunate that the tree had to be cut down but under the circumstances it seemed the best hing .to d'o. Cr. E. Simpson suggested that another tree be planted in the vicinity.
