PRESENTATION MADE FAREWELL AT PAEROA MR J-.-W. CUMMINS HONOURED Members of the Ohinemuri Club assembled in force on Saturday night to bid farewell to a very popular member, Mr J. W. Cummins, who leaves shortly to take up the position of postmaster at Hawera.

The president, Mr D. G. McMillan, expressed the regret of all members Ithat Mr Cummins was leaving Paeroa. He referred to the high qualities of Mr 'Cummins which had endeared him to all with whom he came in contact. He had done everything that had been asked of him in all activities in the town and had become a well-known figure, popular with all and efficient in everything he had' d'one. lie congratulated him on his promotion and wished him all the best in the future. He assured him that he would be welcomed in Hawera and that his fine character would be appreciated by all.

His Worship the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, endorsed the remarks of the president, saying that he spoke with all sincerity when he said 1 he regretted the departure of Mr Cummins. He referred to the service he had rendered in the town and the many friends he would leave behind. As postmaster he had filled a difficult position with great ability- As a club miemben he had been a great fellow and had always done more than his fair share o£.the work. He assured him that* Paeroa would not forget him and he wished him success and happiness in the future. He also extended the same wish to Mrs Cummins and 1 Miss Margaret Cummins.

Mr ’C. Townshend said he had been associated with Mr Cummins' on the Oil Fuel Committee and spoke of the efficient way in which he had handled this difficult job. He wished him happiness and success in future. Mr W. E.. Westlake spoke of the pleasant and' friendly way in' which Mr Cummins had conducted his private and business life. He wished him, Mrs Cummins and Miss Cummins all happiness in the future. Mr A. F. Maude expressed the regret of country members at the departure of iMr Cummins and wished him and his family all the best at Hawera.

•Mr C. N. O’Neill endorsed the remarks of the previous speakers. He referred to the service rendered' in the community by Mi’ Cummins and the high regard in which Mr and Mrs Cummins and Miss. Margaret Cummins were held in the community. He wished him happiness and success in the future.

Mr R. S. Carden spoke in similar strain regarding the high' ability and fine character of Mr Cummins. He spoke of the pleasure it had been to do business with Mr Cummins who had carried out his job in a most efficient way. He extended the very best wishes to him, Mrs Cummins and his daughter. Mr A. E'. Day said he heartily agreed with the other speakers. Mr Cummins had made many friends in Paeroa and would carry with him the very best wishes of all. Mr A. Laurent spoke of the way in which Mr Cummins had welcomed him to the club. Speaking of his work he referred to the high ability which he had shown not only in handling his staff but in dealing with the general public also. He wished him' and his wife and daughter all the best in the future.

Dr. F. L. Clarke spoke of the manner in which Mr Cummins had pulled his weight in the various organisations in the town and wished him happiness in the future. Mr R; S. Nicol endorsed 1 the remarks of the other speakers and wished Mir Cummins, his wife and family all the best in the future. Mr W. Wylde also spoke of the fine character of Mr Cummins and wished him all the best in the future. Mr G. Master endorsed the remarks of the others and said how pleased he had been to know Mr Cummins and wished him all happiness in the future. Mr E. A. Mahoney said he would miss Mr Cummins very much. He was a very charming man and was bound to go a long way in his job. He wished him happiness in the future. In presenting a fountain pen to Mr Cummins, the president said it carried with it the sincerest best wishes from all the members to “a very very good fellow.” Musical honours and three hearty cheers were then .accorded' the guest of honour.

Mr Cummins suitably replied, thanking all for their good wishes and the presentation. He said he had thoroughly enjoyed the period l he had been in Paeroa and appreciated th® friendships he had made.
