WELCOME HOME
FUNCTION AT TURUA DISTRICT PIIOUD OF THEM THREE SOLDIERS HONOURED Sgt. Ron Mules and Ptes. John Madgwick and Alec “Wright were the guests of the evening when the Turua Welcome Home Committee held another of their popular “welcome” dances, in the Turua Public Hall recently. In spite of many other functions being held in various places, a very good crowd gathered and helped to make the evening a great success.
Herb. Walker’s Orchestra supplied the music in its usual popular manner. Mr J. Pye acted as M.C. The Monte Carlo was won by Mrs l J. Tread'away and Mr C. Chinery.
Mr H. H. Hicks welcomed the boys after their appearance on the stage, and stated how proud Turua was to have them home. Sgt. Mules had been in the Middle East for approximately three and a-half years. Pte. John Madgwick went through Greece and Crete and was taken prisoner in Libya and sent by boat to Greece and' later transferred to Germany. Pte. Madgwick was a prisoner for three years. Pte. Alec Wright, who is visiting Turua, was a prisoner l in Germany for three years nine months. All three suitably replied, thanking one and all for the parcels received while away.
During the evening a tap-dance was given by Miss May Johnson. Those present included:—
