The chairman, Cr T. A. Barrett, passed the letter round for the inspection of councillors who were greatly impressed with the fine, neat, copperplate penmanship of the writer. The subject matter of the letter was characteristically introduced with the word ‘greetings.’ Councillors Thanked Gratitude for the action of the Ohinemuri County Council, ini -placing a room in the Coronation Chambers at the disposal of the Ladies Patriotic Committee for its 1 monthly meetings, was expressed in a letter from the committee received at the council’s September meeting. It was stated 1 that the council’s courtesy in the matter was much appreciated. Returned Servicemen

Two prisoners of war were amongst the Waitakaruru servicemen recently returned from overseas. They are Pte. Pat Edmonds and Pte. J. Sargeant. Others to return were L.A.C. Mervyn Simpson who has been on service in the IPacific, Pte. C. Rountree, 'V. Maxwell and Cpl. W. Berridge all from Italy.

Drain Cleaning Abandoned At the September meeting of the Hauraki United- Drainage Board it was decided 1 to abandon the cleaning of the roadside drain in front of Mr F. Speed-y’s- property until such time as Mr Speedy carried out fencing and repairs to the drain to the satisfaction of the -board.

Drainage Board -Meets The monthly meeting of the Haurekai United Drainage Board was held at Turua on Thursday, the chairman, Mr C. K. Fox, presiding. -Others present were Messrs P. G. Pearce, R. Green, E. B. Hill, R .B. Madgwick, N. Alach, C. W. Schultz and the clerk, Mr F. S. R. Kent.
