Two prisoners of war were amongst the Waitakaruru servicemen recently returned from overseas. They are Pte. Pat Edmonds and Pte. J. Sargeant. Others to return were L.A.C. Mervyn Simpson who has been on service in the IPacific, Pte. C. Rountree, 'V. Maxwell and Cpl. W. Berridge all from Italy.

Drain Cleaning Abandoned At the September meeting of the Hauraki United- Drainage Board it was decided 1 to abandon the cleaning of the roadside drain in front of Mr F. Speed-y’s- property until such time as Mr Speedy carried out fencing and repairs to the drain to the satisfaction of the -board.

Drainage Board -Meets The monthly meeting of the Haurekai United Drainage Board was held at Turua on Thursday, the chairman, Mr C. K. Fox, presiding. -Others present were Messrs P. G. Pearce, R. Green, E. B. Hill, R .B. Madgwick, N. Alach, C. W. Schultz and the clerk, Mr F. S. R. Kent.
