PRESENTATION MADE FUNCTION AT NETHERTON MR AND MRS C. W. MALCOLM The Netherton Hall was the scene of a farewell evening on Wednesday last tendered to Mr and Mrs C. W. Malcolm who have left the district to take up residence in Hamilton where Mr M'alcolm -has been appointed headmaster of the Forest Lake School. There was an excellent attendance and many of Mr Malcolm’s pupils were present at the function.

’Music for dancing was supplied by Mrs A. Paul, Mirs A. Laurent, Mrs J. Pennell and Miss EL ’Laurent. Mr J. Gordon acted as’ M.C. After a delicious home-made supper Mr Gordon asked Mr and Mrs Malcolm and 'their small daughter Jennie to come up on the stage where they were well applauded. .Mr L. C. Sanderson, chairman of the Netherton ’School Committee in making the presentation of a beautiful china cabinet to Mr Malcolm, a hanging mirror to Mrs Malcolm and a gold locket to Jennie spoke of the wonderful work Mr Malcolm had done at the Netherton School. He said that when Mi’ Malcolm had first come to Netherton about eight years ago there was long grass around the school 1 and school-house but that it was now in good order. Mr M'alcolm had been a very pushing man and that had given the committee quite a bit of work to do. Progress of School He went on to say that while Mr M’alcolm' had been headmaster at the Netherton School a new classroom had 1 been erected, a swimming bath. constructed 1 , concrete paths’ built around the school and a bitumen playground for the children had been laid down and that the whole lot had been a credit to the school and' Mr Malcolm. He expressed regret at Mr Malcolm leaving the district. “'For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” was most heartily sung by all present. Mr Malcolm l in his reply stated that he was very sorry to be leaving the district. He thanked members of the committee for the help they had given him’ throughout his- term of teaching at Netherton. He mentioned how well behaved the children had always been and that they had 1 been a pleasure to teach. Mr Malcolm said that one pupil was now at King’s College, two at St. Mary’s College and one or two others at other colleges and that they were all doing very well and topping their forms most times. There were others, he said, that he had taught, who were in the . Army, Navy and the Air Force. Mr Malcolm said a lot of credit was due to Mrs Johnson the infant teacher who had got the children- on so well in the early stages of their schooling. In concluding, Mr Malcolm thanked one and all. During the supper interval the children obliged with a number of songs which were very much appreciated by all.

A Monte Carlo waltz was won by Mr R. Laurent and Miss M. Richmond and a statue waltz was won by Don Gordon and Billy Potter. Euchre prizes were won by Mr and Mrs E. Johnson. A most enjoyable evening was brought to a close with the singing of “Auld Lang Syne.” FAREWELL BY PUPILS FUNCTION AT THE SCHOOL A most successful function was held at the Netherton School on Wednesday, September 13 to farewell Mr Malcolm on his departure from' the Netherton School. The whole school was assembled in front of the openair infant room where the presentations were made. Master Brian Coldicutt opened the proceeding’s with a few fitting words. He was followed by Laurel Johnson who presented Mr (Malcolm with a token of appreciation for his great service to the school. Following this, Mrs Malcolm and Jennie were also presented with gifts. “For They Are Jolly Good Fellows” was sung by the pupils followed by three hearty cheers. After the ceremony Mr and Mrs Malcolm were entertained by Forms I. and 11. to a dainty afternoon tea held in the school assembly hall.

Delightful items, vocal and instrumental were given by the children. The party was concluded by the pupils wishing Mr and Mrs Malcolm health, happiness and success in their new surroundings.
