NGATEA INSTITUTE
JULY MEETING HELD DEMONSTRATION GIVEN There was a very large attendance of members at the July meeting of the Ngatea (Women’s Institute. Miss, Paul presided and welcomed a new member. Routine business, and' correspondence was dealt with and arrangements' were finalised for the visit of Mrs l McMillan, W.E.A. lecturer, who will be visiting Ngatea next month. After the recess period, Mr J. Alach was introduced to the members and his demonstration “The Making of Silk Mats,” was keenly watched l by the members. .Samples of his work were on exhibition and these were greatly admired.
At the conclusion of his demonstration Mr Alach was loudly applauded and presented with a floral token by the president. The roll call “A Scotch Saying,” was fairly well answered. Winners of the competitions for the day were:—<Six pieces of shortbread: Mrs Fisher 1, Mrs H. Dalgety 2. Best bloom: Mrs H. Dalgety 1, Mrs E. J. Thomas 2. Decorated coupe: Mrs H. Dalgety 1, Mrs A. Fisher 2. Best parsnip: Mrs L. O’Brien 1, Mrs. E. J. Thomas 2.
A very enjoyable afternoon tea was served by the hostesses, Mesdames F. Hammond, D. Dalgety and S. Phelps.
