ANNUAL SPORTS

HAURAKI PLAINS SCHOOLS

ELECTION OF OFFICERS

PREPARATIONS FOR MARCH

Preparations for the next championship meeting of the Hauraki Plains School Sports Association, generally conceded to be one of the most comprehensive and best organised of such gatherings throughout the Dominion, were made at the annual meeting of the association last week, when all the primary schools on the Plains were fully represented.

The report and balance sheet of last year’s thirteenth sport’s were presented' and showed a very satisfactory state of affairs.

It was' decided to hold the annual sports at Ngatea on Thursday, March 1, beginning at 10 a.m. sharp. A full programme of 31 events, including heats, was adopted as previously.

After much discussion it was decided to delete the tug-of-war .because of its exhaustive effect on competitors. In its place, on the suggestion of Mr H. G. McGowan, of Kerepeehi, it was decided to substitute a jiew item, by the name of “bombardment,”

which is played by teams of eight in a specified area throwing a basketball to knock down pegs on the ground. The catering was again placed in the hands of the Ngatea Plunket Society, a condition being that hot water be provided free. Arrangements were made for parking cars on the school grounds.
