HOLIDAY DANCES

COROMANDEL FUNCTIONS SOME ENJOYABLE EVENINGS On Christmas Eve the Coromandel •Branch of the Labour Party held their annual dance which was a great success. The hall was 'packed and the evening went with a swing. A tasty supper of coffee and sandwiches was served and very much appreciated by the dancers. The music was supplied by Mrs Lucas and Lee Perfect and extras were played by Miss I. Pepper. On Boxing Night the Coromandel Sifver Band held their annual dance and the hall was packed to capacity. In spite of the heat, dancing went with a swing and everyone spent a very happy time.

On Thursday, (December 28, the 'Patriotic Committee ran a dance in aid of patriotic funds. The attendance was smaller than the previous dances but everyone enjoyed the evening. The music was supplied Iby Mrs D. Stewart and an extra was played by Mrs Lucas.

On Saturday, December 30 the Coromandel Bowling Club held, their annual dance. A record crowd turned up to this papular event, and while a great success socially and financially the dancers had some difficulty in getting round the hall owing to the large crowd, both of onlookers and dancers.

During the evening two raffles were drawn, the results of which are advertised in this issue of the Gazette.

Mr Murphy thanked everyone for their attendance and wished them the compliments of the season. At midnight “Auld Lang Syne” brought the proceedings to a close. 'Popular music was supplied by Mrs Lucas and Lee Perfect.

On New Year’s Night the Catholic Church Committee held their usual New Year’s Night dance. A very good attendance was registered and a very pleasant evening was spent by all. The music was supplied by Mrs Lucas and Lee Perfect assisted by a trumpeter who was a visitor to the town. The added instrument and music was very much enjoyed both by the pianist and the dfancers.

Extras were played by Miss 'Lillis. Dancing concluded in the early hours. On Wednesday, January 3 the Patriotic Committee held another dance in aid of patriotic funds. There was a small attendance but everyone enj’oyed themselves.

The music was supplied by Mrs D. Stewart.

Mr Eric Gamble acted as M.C. for all the dances held over the holidays.
