CHRISTMAS MEETING

TURUA WOMEN’S INSTITUTE AN ENJOYABLE AFTERNOON The Christmas meeting of the Turua Women’s Institute was held in the Turua Buildings on Thursday, December 7. Many visitors were present from' different organisations on the plains.

During the afternoon the name of the new federation was discussed and it was decided to favour the name, Thames-Hauraki District Federation.

The roll-call was the exchange of Christmas gifts. This was done in the way of a musical parcel, the person holding the gift as the music ceased being the receiver.

Items were given as follows:—Mrs C. V. Marceau, songs, “When Song Is Sweet,” and “Carry Me Back To Old Virginny”; Misses M. Jamieson and B. Nicholson, duo tapdance and encore; Mrs J. Thrupp and 1 Miss C.. Thrupp, pianoforte duet.

The competitions resulted:— Oven cloth.—Mrs J. Stewart 1, Mrs C. V. Marceau 2.

Decorative vase of flowers.—Mrs A. G. Williams 1, Mrs J. Millington 2. Novelty decorated vase.—Mrs C. V. Marceau 1, Mrs A. G. Williams 2. Novelty necklace.—Mrs A. G. Williams*!, Mrs A. Simmonds 2. Best bloom.—Mrs C. V. Marceau 1, Mrs R. Flynn 2.

A sale of the work done by members during the whole year was also held. Hostesses for the day were Miss C. Bond and Mrs A. G. Williams, The enjoyable afternoon was brought to a close 'by the singing of the National AnfKem.
