APPEALS HEARD

ARMED FORCES BOARD SITTING IN COROMANDEL CASES DEALT WITH LAST WEEK A sitting of the No. 1 Armed Forces Appeal 'Board was 1 held in Coromandel on Tuesday, November 28, Mr E. Edwards presiding. S. M. Quist was appealed for by the Coromandel-Auckland Mussel Co. Reservist was grade 1, single, and emr ployed on the mussel boat. Mr G. A. Gundlock, representing the company stated that it was hard to get men. He had also on the boat J. Gundlock Jnr., married, no children, grade 1, and E. C. Davies, married,, one child, manpowered to the boat. He said the busy season was in full swing and if reservist’s calling-up could be postponed till later on it would be appreciated. The appeal was dismissed, reservist not to be called till after January 31, 1945.

W. A. Turner, grade 1, single, was appealed for by the Auckland Fisheries. Reservist said he owned the launch and had one other member of a crew. They fished with long lines through not being able to buy new nets. He had four brothers, one overseas, one returned from the Pacific in the third division and one on a farm. Weights and prices of catches of fish over a period were supplied. Decision was reserved pending further information from the Auckland Fisheries.

The appeal of J. Hansen, grade 1, married with three children was adjourned sine die for review when married men with three children are called up.
