EVENING AT COLVILLE

WOMEN’S DIVISION FUNCTION BIRTHDAY CELEBRATIONIS Having been postponed for a week on account of bad weather, the social evening celebrating the 14th. anniversary of the Colville W.D.F.U. activities, took place in the Colville Hall on Friday, October 13 and proved very successful. Between the dances, several items were heard and well received. These included a recitation by Valerie Ward, a violin solo by Mrs 'Stock, a song by Mrs N. Ward and a monologue by Mrs Forman. The latter returned to the encore with several limericks, some quite original and mentioning names of her fellow members.

The one-act play, “The Lost Key,” as. staged by Mesdames Ward and W. Evans and the Misses M. Reddy and J. Evans at the last National Party evening, was again performed and roundly applauded. A bran dip for the children was as a honey pot to flies and all the hidden articles were soon brought to view and some quickly demolished.

The lucky door tickets were held by Miss Zillah Anderson, Mrs E. Bridle and Valma Carey. Prizes for these were donated by Mrs Forman who also gave the prizes for the Monte Carlo, won by Miss N. Jeffcoat and AbleSeaman Wishnowsky.

A novel competition which should have well been called a “Sniff, feel and’ guess” game was arranged' iby Mrs Forman. Numbered small white calico bags filled with meal, grain, seeds, shot, sand, spices, etc., were displayed on a table and the competitors were asked to- name the contents in a given time. A sniffing and pummelling of the (bags ensued and when “time” soupded,. Mrs A. Evans had named sufficient to win the ladies’ prize while Able-i Seaman Wishnowsky carried off the men’s.

A dainty hand-embroidered ladies’ underslip, also the president’s work and donation, was won 'by Mr Alfred Jeffcoat.

Many,, articles from the bring-and-buy tables were soon sold and a bountiful supper partaken of. The cutting of the birthday cake in its blue, silver andi while decorations and fourteen glowing candles was performed by Mrs Forman who expressed her thanks to all members and friends who had helped to make the evening such a success, not forgetting members of the Coromandel W.D.F.U. for their generous donation. Mr H. ‘S. Curtis made an very efficient M.C. and kept the function in full swing until a late hour.
