WAR LOAN
PAEROA COMMITTEE MEETS VISIT BY BOND WAGGON SUBSCRIPTIONS TOTAL £8734 A meeting of the Paeroa War Loan Committee was held in the 'Bank of New Zealand, Paeroa, on Monday night. His Worship the Mayor, Mr Edwin Edwards, presided. Others present were Messrs J. Cummins, T. A. Barrett, A. A. Jenkinson, L. A. Clark, R, S. Nicol and the actingsecretary, Mr IG. Bain. Apologies for absence were received from Messrs W. E. Westlake and R. L. Darley. Mr Cummins reported that subscriptions to date totalled £87314 15s Old comprising £400'9 5s Od in National Savings, £949 in bonds and £37TO in Stock.
It was decided to inform the District Committee that 4 <p.m., the time set down for the visit to Paeroa of the Bond Waggon was too late to be of - any value and that a programme would be arranged to start not later than 3 p.m. It was agreed to invite the school children to attend the function when the Bond Waggon visQ ited Paeroa. , The secretary was instructed to endeavour to arrange for W.A.A.C’s. to sell bonds among the crowd during the visit of the Bond Waggon.
It was reported that Mr E. Kahn had offered to organise a concert to be broadcast from Mr F. J. Johnston’s shop to assist the bond selling campaign. The committee in accepting the offer arranged to provide speakers and bond sellers.
