WORK ON WHARVES
IMPROVEMENTS ON PLAINS VERY EXTENSIVE REPAIRS NEW PILES PUT IN AT TURUA All wharves on the Hauraki Plains are being repaired and improved, reported the county engineer, Mr E. Hazledine-lßarber to the July meeting of the Hauraki Plains County Council.
The report read as under: — “Kerepeehi.—Repairs to this wharf have been completed. “Turua.—Very extensive repairs are being : made io this wharf. Two piles have been driven and the northwest cornei’ of the goods shed lifted and new caps and stringers placed. All caps and stringers, with the exception of those under the shed, have still to be replaced; most of the piles . are being sawn back to solid timber and new short piles strapped to them. “Kaihere. —New caps and stringers are required and minor repairs to shed. “Pipiroa.—New caps, stringers and decking required. “Kopuarahi.—l strongly recommend abandoning this wharf, most of the structure is rotten.” It was decided to give the engineer the necessary authority to close the Kopuarahi wharf and dismantle same.
