U.S. Eighth Air Force Flying Fortresses attack the huge Focke Wulf aircraft factory at Marienburg, south-east of Danzig and 200 miles beyond Berlin. This plant covering more than 100 acres was believed to assemble approximately half of all FW-190 fighter planes produced. Brig.-Gen. Frederick L. Anderson, Commanding General of Eighth Bomber Command announced that the plant was “virtually destroyed.” Smoke and flames rising from the wrecked factory as Fortresses turn from the target and start the long journey, home.
