COMING-OF-AGE PARTY FUNCTION AT NGATEA MISS OSBALDISTON HONOURED Twenty-first birthday honours were celebrated for Miss Betty Osbaldiston at a party held in the Ngatea 'Public Hall on Saturday night last, when there was a large gathering of relatives and friends from Whakatane, Auckland and Ngatea. •Dancing occupied the greater part of the evening, the music being provided by Mrs E. Hall, Mrs E. Coates, Mrs M. Bush, Miss P. Johnson, Mrs F. Bartley and W.0.11. Vickerstaff (on furlough). Monte Carlo waltz competitions were won by Miss E. Moore and Mr Barry Bartley and Miss E. Moore with Mr R. Bartley.

Refreshments were served throughout the evening, and after a delicious supper, Mr F. Bartley, called upon Mr G. A. Grammond to propose the important toast of the occasion. On behalf of all present Mr Crammond extended hearty congratulations to Miss Osbaldiston, on attaining her majority. He said that Betty would be quite capable of managing her new-found privileges and asked Mrs Osbaldiston to present the “‘key of the door” to her daughter. Musical honours were accorded at this stage and Miss Johnson played the old favourite, “I’m Twenty-one To-day.” , After blowing out the 'candles of the beautiful cake, which had been made by Mrs J. E. Bartley and decorated by Mrs F. Bartley, Miss Osbaldiston thanked everyone for their congratulations and good wishes, also for the lovely array of presents which she had received and hoped that they would all go ahead and thoroughly enjoy themselves. The candles were lighted by a brother of the guest of honour, Mr A. Osbaldiston and a special toast was proposed to another brother, Ellis Osbaldiston and a cousin, Ron Bearsley, both of whom are on active service in Italy. The evening continued in enjoyment and merriment until a late hour. Mr L. Julian carried out the duties of M.C. Ladies present included: —
