FARMERS MEET
COROGLEN—WHENUAKITE LOCAL ELECTION CANDIDATES A meeting of the Coroglen-Whenua-kite branch of the Farmers’ Union was held in the Coroglen Hall recently. Mr W. A. Hamilton presided over a large attendance of members who later listened to a brief report on the sub-provincial conference by the branch delegate.
The Co-operative Primary Producers’ Society was discussed and the difference between proprietary concerns using the title co-operative and truly co-operative concerns such as the C.PjPJS. and P.M.A. was explained. A committee was appointed to organise a cull cow drive. Lack of union activity in Whitianga was. mentioned and this deplorable state of affairs was the subject of considerable discussion. It was left to the secretary to arrange a meeting in Whitianga early in June. Action so long awaited by many members was raised in connection with the campaign for the election to local bodies of candidates pledged to refuse to levy hospital rates. The advisability of moving the Te Kauanga wharf was brought up and it was decided to ask the Coromandel County Council to obtain a report from the engineer on the suggestions.
