LOYAL HAURAKI LODGE

FUNCTION IN COROMANDEL

VERY ENJOYABLE EVENING

The forty-eighth anniversary of the Loyal Hauraki Lodge was held in Coromandel on Saturday, October 2.

A meeting was held in the Lodge Room prior to a social evening held in iSt. George’s Hall. At the meeting there was a large attendance of members. Also present were the District Grand Master, P.G. Bro. James Gray, Immediate 'Past D.G.M., PXL Bro, R. >F. Newton, <P.G’s. Bros. H. V. Hampton, P. Stubbing and J. Codlin, members of the District Management Committee and Sisters Gray, Hampton and Codlin.

The N.G. of the Lodge, Sister J. Notman, extended a welcome to the D.G.M. and his officers and the honours of the Order were conferred on them.

The District Officers conducted the initiation ceremony when a new member was admitted to., the Order. The visitors, gave short talks on various subjects in connection with the Manchester Unity, and congratulated Hauraki Ladge on winning the membership shield hanging on the wall. Several apologies for absence were read by the secretary, including one from the D.D.G.M. P.G. Bro. Ward, and the District Secretary, P.G. Bro. Allan, P.D.G.M., and. the District Treasurer, P.G. Bro. S. 0. Clark. After the Lodge Prayer was read the meeting closed and all adjourned to St. George’s Hall. A dainty supper was set out in the supper room, a beautiful birthday cake taking the place of honour on the main table.

The toast of “The King” Was proposed by the N.G., Sis. Notman, and was musically honoured. Other toasts were: “Auckland District,” proposed by P.G. Bro. Edgar, a foundation member of the lodge. The Grand Master responded to this' toast. He expressed pleasure at being able, once more to attend Hauraki’s birthday. He congratulated the lodge on their continued successful working and hoped it would continue. He concluded his remarks with the hope that all members would realise that while the large number of members were overseas on active service it was the least they could all do to put their shoulders to the wheel and if any extra levies came along to assist the soldier members and to pay them cheerfully. “Members on Active Service,” proposed by P.G. iSister J. Deeble, responded to by W.O. Bro. Alan McCall.

Sister Gray, wife or the Grand Master then cut the cake, expressing the hope that there would be many more such occasions and wishing the Lodge every success in the future. ■Other toasts were: — “Visiting Lodges,” proposed by Bro. Shanley and replied to by P.G. Sis. Hampton on behalf of Loyal Chevalier* Lodge, Loyal Parnell Lodge, Loyal Dominion Lodge, Loyal Remuera Lodge, Loyal ■Howick Lodge and Loyal Thames Lodge, all these lodges being represented at the function. “Absent Members,” proposed by P.G. Sister Alice Riley. Sister Riley commented on the fact that ,a very large number of members were absent this year chiefly owing to having left the district, and also the lack of transport and members being on essential work and unable to get away. The toast to “The Ladies” was proposed by. P.G. Bro. W. Peters. Bro. Peters said it gave him very great pleasure to. propose this' toast and he paid a compliment to the ladies by stating that many of the lodges would not be able to function to-day if it were not for the wonderful work they were doing. He instanced Hauraki as one of these lodges. The toast was most energetically and heartily honoured. Sister Gray responded on behalf of the ladies present and for the sisters of all Lodges. “Army, Navy Air Force and Kindred Services,” proposed by Bro. Max Denize and responded to by Bro. George Maurice. Bro. V. Powley acted as Toastmaster and Sisters P.G. A. and E. Riley and P.G. J. Ddeble acted as hostesses. The stewards were P.G. Bros. T H Barrett and O W Carlson and Bro. Eric Gamble acted as M.C. Dancing took place interspersed with items. Songs were rendered by Miss J. McLellan and Mr. McLellan and were very much enjoyed. The function ( came to an end in the early hours.
